Thanksgiving post 14

Today I am thankful for Thanksgiving.  I'm thankful that there is a holiday that makes me pause to think about all the things I am grateful for.

Thanksgiving post 13

I'm thankful Hannah could come home for a little while.  It was a short trip but we'll take what we can get.  Lots of fun watching Jordan and Hannah interacting before they were off to do their own things. It wets my appetite for having everyone here for Thanksgiving.  We haven't had that for the past 2 years so I'm happy at the thought of having everyone home again.  I'm thankful for the kids that brought Hannah home this trip and for their safe travel.

Thanksgiving post 12

Today I am thankful to have a home where I am protected from the elements, feel comfortable, and feel secure.  I'm grateful I've never had to live under a bridge or in a car.  I can't imagine being homeless. I'm thankful for my blessings.

Thanksgiving Post 11: Who Are The Brave

Today is 11/11/11. The time is not quite 11:11 but it won't be long before it is. A unique day in numbers. I wonder how many people chose this as their wedding day.

It is also Veteran's Day. I just looked on Facebook and it is full of posts saluting our troops past and present.  This song was shared which I'm not sure that I'd heard before. I'll share it too incase you aren't familiar with it either. This version shows the choir singing it but there is also a music video version to see.

So thanks to the brave. Thanks to my uncles that served and my dad though the war was over by the time he was called up. And thanks to all the other brave who were willing to give their lives for our country.

"When we safeguard the heavenly virtue of freedom, when we honor it, when we protect it, we will walk with Washington, we will pray with patriots, and we shall have peace on earth, good will to men." Thomas S. Monson

And one last thank you to the youth group in our neighborhood as well as across town that get up early in the morning to put flags in everyone's yards on patriotic holidays.  I love those days and often wish there were more of them.  It was particularly comforting to me to turn on to our road and see flag after flag in the days following 9/11.

So thank you.

Thanksgiving post 10

Today I am super thankful that despite falling out of her wheelchair last night, my mother was not seriously injured.  I got the call last night saying it had happened so Dad and I went down to The Homestead to check on her.  The nurse came about a 1/2 hour after we got there.  Mom was laughing and talking much of the time we were there.  She was actually using full sentences that made sense. It was as if bumping her head cleared a fog for a while.  She has a whopper of a bruise and goose egg on her forehead but otherwise appears fine.  The nurse said her vitals and responses were good so she wasn't too worried.   The aide on duty felt horrible about the accident.  He was pushing her across the hall and Mom planted her feet but he didn't realize it.  Her feet stopped but the wheelchair kept going so it threw Mom out on her head.  He apologized I don't know how many times and mom kept laughing at him.

So I'm thankful for no broken bones or other serious injuries. I'm thankful for no need for an ambulance or run to the ER. And I'm thankful for staff that checked on her through out the night.

Thanksgiving post 9

Yes, I am aware that I skipped post 8.  I was too grumpy to feel very grateful.  :)  So today I'm grateful that I'm not grumpy today. And I'm not even grumpy on most days... I think everyone I encounter can be grateful for my non-grumpy day.

So for yesterday's missed post, I can be grateful that I don't have to ever repeat yesterday.  This is what happened. My friend said that she goes to the beauty school and gets a color and cut for $25. I am having a hard time getting coverage over my greys doing it myself so I thought I'd give this a shot.  My appointment was for 1:15.  I left the beauty school at 7:00.  No joke. Wow, it all took forever.  The girl wasn't bad but she was slow.  I kept wishing that her supervisor would just take over so we could get on with it.  I had another appointment for 4:00 so I called John and asked him to cancel that one for me.  They colored it about 2 shades darker than I'd had but because I went darker the color looked "hollow" as they said.  (I never saw it in that stage).  So they used another process to give it vibrancy. That tacked on at least an extra 1/2 hour.  By the time they got through all that was involved with the coloring it was time for the day school to close and the night school would be starting in 10 minutes or so.  They gave me the option of waiting for night school or rescheduling for the cut.  I decided to get the cut done so I wouldn't have to come back again and start all over.

So I got another girl for the cut and she seemed to have more confidence so I was encouraged but she didn't really do what she said she was going to do.  I don't think she cut off nearly as much as planned but I was afraid to ask her to do more because it would have added so much more time.  I decided I'd keep quiet and just cut more off myself if I needed to.  I did tell her several times that I didn't like my bangs done flat but she styled them that way anyway.  When she finished, my hair looked nearly identical to hers.  So I told her that the problem with it being styled that way was that it looks like it belongs on a 20 year old and I am nearing 50.  She said she thought it looked nice that way.  Then after a pause added, "Of course, I am 20".  Kinda made me laugh. To add to the pain of this taking nearly 6 hours, it cost me $51.  that is a considerable amount more than $25.  So totally not worth it.

And my frustrations only continued since I had not voted before I went.  I always vote during the day when it is not busy.  I'm usually in and out very quickly.  but since I was getting to the polls after 7:00 it was quite a wait.  I was pretty grumpy by then.  I considered walking out but I would have felt guilty if the person I wanted to be mayor had lost and I hadn't voted.Turns out that he won by enough that my vote wouldn't have mattered.

Anyway, now I'm grateful that I don't have to get my hair done that way every time.  I'm blessed with other options, none of which require nearly 6 hours.  As it turns out, the cut is fine once I styled it myself but I'm still undecided on the new color.

Thanksgiving post 7

I'm having a hard time choosing what to be thankful for today.  I think I will go with being thankful for our wood stove.  I mentioned in an earlier post that we have electric ceiling cable heat which I dislike.  If it is a small closed room it works well but our downstairs is all open so it never really feels that toasty with just the heat on.  But start up a fire in the wood stove and it is toasty nice.  My loving husband built a fire just before he left for work this morning. When I came down stairs it, my hair was still wet but since the room was so toasty I wasn't cold.  Perhaps what I should really be writing about is how sweet my husband was to build that fire for me.  He left as soon as it was going so I'm the only one that benefited from it.   Yep, I think that wins.  Today I'm grateful for my thoughtful husband who warmed my heart by warming my house.
